Roberto Coronado to Lead Fed's El Paso Branch

For immediate release: September 12, 2012

DALLAS—Roberto Coronado has been promoted to assistant vice president in charge of the El Paso Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. In this role, Coronado will serve as the Bank’s lead executive for West Texas and southern New Mexico.

Coronado will replace Bill Gilmer upon his retirement on Oct. 1.

Previously, Coronado served as economic outreach officer. He joined the El Paso Branch in 2001 as a research assistant and later served as the senior business economist at the branch.

Coronado will continue his role as the chief economic contact for the El Paso Branch, overseeing the branch’s outreach activities through publications, presentations and speeches, public conferences and economic education.

His research at the Fed focuses on issues pertaining to the Mexican economy, the maquiladora industry, the U.S.–Mexico border economy and the West Texas and New Mexico economies. Coronado has written articles for various Federal Reserve publications and academic journals in both the United States and Mexico.

Coronado currently serves as the vice president for the Rio Grande Economics Association, the El Paso chapter for the National Association for Business Economics. Coronado is also a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he teaches in the master of science in economics program.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics and a master’s degree in economics from UT–El Paso. Coronado also holds a PhD in economics from the University of Houston.
