Dallas Fed Announces Executive Promotion

DALLAS—The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has named labor economist Pia Orrenius as research officer.

Previously, Orrenius served as senior research economist and policy advisor. In her new role, her research will continue to focus on the regional economy, the economic impact of immigration and U.S. immigration policy.

From 2004–2005, she served as senior economist on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, where she advised the Bush administration on labor, health and immigration issues.

Orrenius is research fellow at the Tower Center for Political Studies at Southern Methodist University and the IZA Institute of Labor in Bonn, Germany. She is also an adjunct professor at Baylor University (Dallas Campus), where she teaches in the executive MBA program.

Orrenius holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles and a bachelor’s degree in economics and Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.
