Globalization and Free Trade Misconceptions
Focus of Dallas Fed Conference

As outsourcing and trade issues continue to grab the nation’s headlines, a group of distinguished economists, academicians, diplomats and writers will convene at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas on November 3-5, 2004, to discuss the world’s most misunderstood and debated economic issue—globalization.

“Myths and Realities of Globalization” will be held at the Dallas Fed, 2200 N. Pearl St. Participants can register to attend the conference at www.dallasfed.org.

Speakers will examine globalization’s impact on the U.S. job market, outsourcing, the environment, intellectual property rights, child labor and the flow of capital.

The World Trade Organization’s role in fostering globalization also will be examined.

Keynote speakers include Columbia University professor Jagdish Bhagwati, who will present “In Defense of Globalization.” University of Chicago Law School professor and former Deputy Treasury Secretary Kenneth Dam will discuss the political future of globalization.

Speakers also include French Consul General Denis Simonneau, New York Times writer Virginia Postrel, Catherine L. Mann of the Institute for International Economics, Kristin Forbes of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and Amity Shlaes of Financial Times.
