Combating Poverty Through Microcredit Lending November 6, 2003
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas

Join the Dallas Fed and the World Affairs Council of Greater Dallas for a special luncheon featuring Roshaneh Zafar, founder of the Kashf Foundation.

The Kashf Foundation of Lahore, Pakistan, provides microfinance services to poor women. Established in 1996, Kashf (meaning miracle or revelation, i.e., a process of self-discovery) is dedicated to alleviating poverty and economically empowering women from poor households. Ms. Zafar organized the first microfinance program in Pakistan targeting women from low-income communities.

Kashf is a project of the Grameen Foundation, which oversees microcredit programs in Asia, Africa, Mexico, Central America and the United States. The luncheon will be presented in cooperation with the PLAN Fund, a project of the Grameen Foundation USA that promotes microcredit lending in Dallas.

Lucy Billingsley, who supports the PLAN Fund as well as another Grameen Foundation project in Chiapas, Mexico, will introduce Ms. Zafar.
