Economic Sleuths: Investigating the Intriguing Recession of 2008-09 with a Nobel Approach
The 2009 Evening at the Fed series will feature Carlos Zarazaga, senior economist and policy advisor in the Dallas Fed’s Research Department. Zarazaga will examine the intriguing way in which the U.S. economy has been behaving during the recent and unprecedented global economic slump. If you feel that this recession has been different from any other you have seen before, that's because it is different. Zarazaga will argue that investigating the U.S. economy with the methodology proposed by Nobel Laureates Finn Kydland and Edward Prescott delivers useful clues for answering pressing questions such as:
- Where is the U.S. economy heading?
- Is there any hope that the worst of the current economic slump is over?
- Is it possible to identify the force that could put an end to the slump?
- Will a recovery be sustainable?
- Will the recovery come with jobs?
